Insist, persist and never give up

Learning a new language is an enriching experience that opens doors to new cultures, opportunities, and ways of seeing the world. It means immersing oneself in a different reality, delving into understanding and getting to know new cultures. It is building a bridge to the unknown, expanding our horizons, and developing empathy towards other ways of life. It allows us to travel without leaving our home, exploring millennia-old traditions through words.

Learning and delving into a new language not only responds to the needs of a globalized world or opens doors both professionally and personally, but also fosters very valuable cognitive skills. It exercises our memory, improves concentration, increases mental agility, and stimulates problem-solving abilities.
Undoubtedly, learning a new language transcends mere linguistic skills. It is a window to cultural knowledge, a tool for cognitive development, a personal and professional opportunity, and a link for human connection in an increasingly diverse world. For all these reasons, it is one of the most enriching experiences we can undertake.

However, the path is not without its challenges. Learning a new language requires perseverance, discipline, and continuous practice. We must overcome initial frustration, mental blocks, and fears of making mistakes. But the reward is worth it: opening our minds, connecting with other human beings, and feeling like citizens of the world.

Knowing all this, I would like to share through this blog my process in learning a new language. During the first class, I realized all my shortcomings; however, the teacher provided us with close diagnostic support to identify our level and which skills we needed to reinforce. As I mentioned before, learning a new language involves regular and constant practice; it is important to expose ourselves frequently since we do not live in a place where its use is necessary or constant. Therefore, the teacher recommended a news website where we could practice reading, learn vocabulary, and engage with pronunciation.

When I spoke with the teacher, I mentioned that the skills that were most difficult for me were listening and speaking, as they are the ones I have worked on the least. For this reason, the teacher recommended listening to podcasts and practicing passive voice, listening to songs or news while doing activities, so I can identify words and train my ear, which will also help me gain more confidence and improve my speaking skills.

The teacher's advice was very important, and he made it clear that in each class, we could practice our skills and he would provide us with elements that could be useful for our learning process. However, our process depended almost entirely on us, so we had to be very consistent and disciplined to achieve our goals and objectives.
