Class #2

Throughout the class, we worked on the different skills that enable us to learn a language. The teacher showed us how from a simple image we can acquire a lot of vocabulary and practice different skills such as writing, speaking, and using prepositions. In this initial moment, we realized how much we can practice and learn around a simple image, and that we can also make use of descriptions not only from images but also from situations and spaces in which we find ourselves.

Later, we focused on the listening skill. We performed a rather long listening activity, where we listened to different audios of different situations and answered certain questions. Then, we evaluated the results of our answers. At the end, we made a socialization circle where each one spoke about their experience with the listening work. Personally, I must admit that I am not very used to these exercises, and British English is much more complex for me. Additionally, throughout the audio, I felt tired and stopped understanding, which made me lose the thread of the conversation.

The teacher insisted that when facing these audios, we should not do it with fears or negative thoughts, but rather understanding that it is an opportunity to learn and that we should trust ourselves more and constantly expose ourselves to the language through news, podcasts, movies, and songs to get used to it. The only way to learn a language is to constantly expose ourselves to it using different strategies. Listening will not only help us understand what the other person says but also improve pronunciation, as by carefully listening, we can better imitate the correct pronunciation.
